Serve Tour - Columbia, SC

S7a - Psychiatric Institute Day Room Refresh (Fri)

8/22/2025 — 8/22/2025

In partnership with churches, associations, your state convention, and SEND Relief, the Serve Tour seeks to inspire you to engage in compassion ministry through participation in ministry projects in Columbia. Our plan is to find ways to meet needs and bless churches, schools, local governments, and compassion ministry non-profits. In addition, we want to strategically help local revitalized churches and bless bi-vocational pastors by providing assistance.

We want to make it easy to bring people together in Jesus’ name to make a difference.

Our goal is for the Serve Tour to become a unifying opportunity for Southern Baptists to demonstrate to a watching city who we are and more importantly, who our Savior is. As believers swarm the city, we will provide pre-trip training guides and a 30-day prayer guide to help you take your next step on missions.

What will you do?

You will begin each day of Serve Tour at the Spring Valley Baptist Church hub. The address is 91 Polo Road, Columbia, SC, 29223. Your project leader will give you instructions each morning of the Serve Tour.

Project details:

William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute serves as South Carolina’s state psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents, ages 4 to 17, who are at serious risk of harming themselves or others. Many of these young patients come from deeply challenging circumstances and are in the custody of the Department of Social Services (DSS) or the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). The staff at the Institute works tirelessly to help these children stay safe, heal from trauma, and develop healthier coping strategies for their futures.

Volunteers will bring comfort and dignity to these young lives by painting patient day rooms and bedrooms. These spaces have not been updated in over a decade and are beginning to show signs of wear. A fresh coat of paint can help create a more peaceful, welcoming environment, one that communicates to each child that they are seen, valued, and worthy of beautiful surroundings.

Please note: For the safety and privacy of the patients, all volunteers will be required to undergo additional security checks upon arrival. A valid ID is required for entry, and phones and smartwatches will not be permitted inside the facility.
