In partnership with churches, associations, your state convention, and SEND Relief, the Serve Tour seeks to inspire you to engage in compassion ministry through participation in ministry projects in Brownsville, TX. Our plan is to find ways to meet needs and bless churches, schools, local governments, and compassion ministry non-profits. In addition, we want to strategically help revitalized local churches and bless bi-vocational pastors by providing assistance.
We want to make it easy to bring people together in Jesus’ name to make a difference.
Our goal is for the Serve Tour to become a unifying opportunity for Southern Baptists to demonstrate to a watching city who we are and, more importantly, who our Savior is. As believers swarm the city, we will provide pre-trip training guides and a 30-day prayer guide to help you take your next step on mission.
What will you do?
You will begin each day of Serve Tour at the Iglesia Bautista Southmost Hub. The address is 2515 International Blvd. Brownsville, TX 78521. Your project leader will give you instructions each morning of the Serve Tour.
Project details:
Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) is one of the largest student ministries on the campuses of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and Texas Southmost College (TSC) campuses in Brownsville. BSM has been able to establish conversations and share the gospel with over 500 different students each semester. One of BSM’s most effective student outreach events is a weekly Free Lunch.
In partnership with the BSM, volunteers will help to put on a large-scale Free Lunch for approximately 500 students. The event will provide an ideal environment for sharing the Gospel at different stations and at each table where volunteers will converse with students. In addition to the meal, BSM student musicians at both campuses will provide live music to draw students to the event.
The goal of this event is to have evangelistic conversations with at least half of the students who attend, reconnect those who identify themselves as believers with a local church, and offer them help in ongoing personal discipleship. Volunteers will assist in running all the stations, have conversations with students, and share the gospel throughout the day.
