June 2024, volunteers just like you will be coming alongside a city-wide event designed to invite local churches in Cape Town to serve their community workers and government service providers, such as the police, firemen, teachers and schools, clinics, orphanages, old age homes, libraries, government municipal offices, etc., as well as community members who benefit from these services (hospital patients, orphans, elderly residents of old age homes, etc.)
Serve Tour volunteers will work alongside of Baptist churches, and could be involved in projects such as painting, cleaning, picking up trash, cleaning up beach areas, working with kids and youth in the community, delivering appreciation gifts and cards to municipal workers, making and delivering food or meals to these workers, washing cars, and other acts of service and appreciation.
This trip is for adults but does allow those 14+ to participate at a one-to-one ratio with adults on the team. A small sub-group of this Serve Tour will be invited to take part in a Band Camp for at-risk teenagers in a slum area. This sub-group must be proficient players of wind instruments such as flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and percussion, and be comfortable helping lead sectional rehearsals and teaching basic playing methods. This group may also put together pieces to perform for various places around the city in the afternoons in addition to leading the camp in the mornings. We only need one player for flute, and euphonium; 2 players for Trombone, clarinet, and percussion; and three players for trumpet.
Once registered, you and your team are committed to spend seven days onsite at the rate of $1,200 per volunteer.*
While your team’s schedule will need to remain flexible, your general week’s itinerary will be as follows:
