Serve Tour - New Orleans, LA

NO15 - Winning Our World Book Parade (Sat)

6/10/2023 — 6/10/2023

In partnership with churches, associations, your state convention, and SEND Relief, the Serve Tour seeks to inspire you to engage in compassion ministry through participation in ministry projects in New Orleans, LA. Our plan is to find ways to meet needs and bless churches, schools, local governments, and compassion ministry non-profits. In addition, we want to strategically help revitalized local churches and bless bi-vocational pastors by providing assistance.

We want to make it easy to bring people together in Jesus’ name to make a difference.

Our goal is for the Serve Tour to become a unifying opportunity for Southern Baptists to demonstrate to a watching city who we are and, more importantly, who our Savior is. As believers swarm the city, we will provide pre-trip training guides and a 30-day prayer guide to help you take your next step on missions.

What will you do?

You will begin each day of Serve Tour at the FBC New Orleans hub. The address is 5290 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Your project leader will give you instructions each morning of the Serve Tour.

Project details:

The Free Mission Baptist Church is in its 67th year of existence in the Lower Ninth Ward community of New Orleans. In order to build trust through direct family engagement, FMBC is hosting a book parade, but instead of beads and toys, handing out books along the route to promote reading and literacy. Participants in the parade will be asked to don a costume of some sort to represent their favorite book character. This event will partner with community groups, a local high school band to lead the parade, and a couple of community marching club units to make a big splash of excitement and bring attention to the VBS program which would start the following week, and boost the presence of the church in the Community. Ultimately, to bring attention to Jesus and his love for all!

Volunteers will assist in manning stations along the route with refreshments; walk the parade route starting and ending at the church while handing out children's books along the way; and help with yard games and a movie night at twilight on our church site to end the day. Volunteers will engage with the 9th Ward community to share the Gospel and invite them to Vacation Bible School the following week. Volunteers will also help to sign up VBS potential participants along the parade route and at the culminating block party event as well.

*Registration closes on June 7th or when the event reaches capacity*
