Imagine one of the most diverse communities in America where 60-70% of the population are foreign-born, representing over 50 countries, and 100+ distinct ethnic groups. And all this diversity is compressed within 1.4 square miles. That is Clarkston, GA. Known as the “Ellis Island of the South,” there are great needs, but there are also great opportunities for churches and individuals to invest in the residents of this unique community. For many, they left circumstances most of us could not imagine, yet they inherited a new situation most of us take for granted. It is in this transition that we have the greatest opportunity to meet their need, build relationships and begin gospel conversations.
What will you do:
The Encounter Clarkston mission trip experience is one that leans on our teams to be the man-power behind our summer-long day camp that we provide to over 150 children ages 5-14 in the Clarkston area. Teams will serve alongside our camp staff to provide a Gospel-centered camp experience where students will engage in the Bible while also being instructed in a STEM-like curriculum along 3 different tracks: sports, arts and music, and academia.
When teams are not working with the camp, they will be participating in evening activities that include apartment outreach, evangelism training, refugee resettlement education, and free time to explore Clarkston and engage further in our diverse community.
