Serve Tour - Baltimore, MD

FR-5| The Gates Church Bathroom Project (Fri+Sat)

4/29/2022 — 4/30/2022

In partnership with churches, associations, your state convention, and SEND Relief, the Serve Tour seeks to inspire you to engage in compassion ministry through participation in ministry projects in Baltimore. Our plan is to find ways to meet needs and bless churches, schools, local governments and compassion ministry non-profits. We want to strategically help local revitalized churches and bless bi-vocational pastors by providing assistance.

We want to make it easy to bring people together in Jesus’ name to make a difference.

Our goal is for the Serve Tour to become a unifying opportunity for Southern Baptists to demonstrate to a watching city who we are and (more importantly) who our Savior is. As believers swarm the city, we will provide pre-trip training guides and a 30-day prayer guide to help you take your next step on mission.

What will you do?

You will begin each day of serve tour at the FREEDOM CHURCH hub. The address is 5310 Hazelwood Ave Baltimore, MD 21206. Your project leader will give you instructions each morning of Serve Tour.

The Gates Church was founded in 2017, and the its mission is to apply the gospel to five different areas: under-resourced kids/teens, addicts in recovery, grief, anxiety/depression, and marriage/family. After meeting in a movie theatre for a few years, it merged with Northeast Baptist Church in June 2021 and started meeting in their church building. The Northeast Baptist building was built in 1961, and unfortunately there is a lot of work that needs to be done in this facility. The Gates Church is located in Armistead Gardens, a predominantly low-income neighborhood that consists of about 1500 homes.

The Gates Church is currently building a small half bathroom in the upstairs portion of their building, as people with physical limitations are currently not able to go downstairs and reach the restroom. The church is projecting that the plumbing will be finished by the Serve Tour weekend, so they will be inviting volunteers to help them to frame the bathroom walls and put up the sheet rock. Ideally, someone with framing or carpentry experience would be welcome to participate in this project.
