Serve Tour - Baltimore, MD

C-2| Traci Atkins Park Cleanup and Cookout (Sat)

4/30/2022 — 4/30/2022

In partnership with churches, associations, your state convention, and SEND Relief, the Serve Tour seeks to inspire you to engage in compassion ministry through participation in ministry projects in Baltimore. Our plan is to find ways to meet needs and bless churches, schools, local governments and compassion ministry non-profits. We want to strategically help local revitalized churches and bless bi-vocational pastors by providing assistance.

We want to make it easy to bring people together in Jesus’ name to make a difference.

Our goal is for the Serve Tour to become a unifying opportunity for Southern Baptists to demonstrate to a watching city who we are and (more importantly) who our Savior is. As believers swarm the city, we will provide pre-trip training guides and a 30-day prayer guide to help you take your next step on mission.

What will you do?

You will begin each day of serve tour at the CHRISTIAN LIBERTY CHURCH hub. The address is 2301 Gwynns Falls Pkwy, Baltimore, MD 21217. Your project leader will give you instructions each morning of Serve Tour.

Pastor Steven Fleck has been pastoring at New Southwest Baptist Church since 1999, and several years ago the church went through an intentional season of attending neighborhood associations to see how the members could be more engaged with the surrounding community. This led to a strong relationship between New Southwest Baptist Church and the Mount Clare Community Council. Pastor Fleck has been regularly involved with the Mount Clare Community Council for the past 6 years, including serving as Vice President for 3 years. During this time, the church has regularly partnered with the community council to do service projects or host events, from Christmas events to movie nights.

In 2020, Pastor Fleck was involved in helping the community council to organize a Kids Fun Day at Traci Atkins Park. New Southwest Baptist seeks to continue building on this relationship by conducting a Cleanup and Cookout Day at Traci Atkins Park. Traci Atkins Park is 4 blocks from New Southwest Baptist, and it is regularly frequented by different residents of the community--from teenagers playing basketball to people going through homelessness. Volunteers will spend Saturday morning cleaning up trash and connecting with people at the park, and then having a cookout around 1pm.
