Serve Tour - Baltimore, MD

T-1| Baltimore Police Dept. Service (Fri)

4/29/2022 — 4/29/2022

In partnership with churches, associations, your state convention, and SEND Relief, the Serve Tour seeks to inspire you to engage in compassion ministry through participation in ministry projects in Baltimore. Our plan is to find ways to meet needs and bless churches, schools, local governments and compassion ministry non-profits. We want to strategically help local revitalized churches and bless bi-vocational pastors by providing assistance.

We want to make it easy to bring people together in Jesus’ name to make a difference.

Our goal is for the Serve Tour to become a unifying opportunity for Southern Baptists to demonstrate to a watching city who we are and (more importantly) who our Savior is. As believers swarm the city, we will provide pre-trip training guides and a 30-day prayer guide to help you take your next step on mission.

What will you do?

You will begin each day of serve tour at the TRANSFORMATION CENTER hub. The address is 3701 4th St, Brooklyn, MD 21225. Your project leader will give you instructions each morning of Serve Tour.

In 2014, the historic Lee Street Baptist Church (founded in 1855) merged with a new church plant called Redeemer City Church (founded in 2013), and Jesus Our Redeemer was born. Jesus Our Redeemer is located in the Federal Hill neighborhood, and they are committed to making disciples in the heart of the city. Over the past several years, Pastor Brad O'Brien has worked hard to build relationships with Baltimore's Southern District Police Department. He participated in a chaplaincy program for Baltimore pastors and now serves as the President of the Southern District Community Relations Council. This means that Pastor Brad is in a position of working directly with their Major and other command staff. Jesus Our Redeemer is hosting a service project that would focus on blessing the officers in the Southern District in tangible ways.

Firstly, they will be doing manual labor to paint and clean out old storage areas (which are old holding cells). Secondly, they will be working to clean and paint a room that will be utilized for a new analytics based division. Thirdly, they will arrange for food trucks and/or mobile coffee shops to be on site at each roll call to feed and caffeinate the officers as a way of expressing their gratitude for their service on the front lines. Lastly, they will use this opportunity to tell the officers about the Southern Baptist Churches in the district so that they can attend on any Sunday in the future.
